Adding New Printouts to InBloom

Because InBloom is built with FileMaker, you have wonderful capabilities to add and customize printouts as you like.  There are a number of different options when printing that can cause headaches though, such as:

  1. paper size
  2. paper orientation (horizontal or vertical)
  3. which printer to print to
  4. which records to print (the currently selected record or all the records viewed)

Because of that, we set up InBloom with a simple but elegant solution to automate these settings for you.

On each layout used for printing in the Printouts file, there is a new PrintSettings object.  This text object is named “PrintSettings” in the Info window and is designed to contain 5 lines:

  • Line #1 is used as a visual comment line.  In the grey box below, the “Customize lines 2-4 of this text box…” which is all in grey, is actually only on the first line and is wrapping around to fit the dimensions of this box.  You don’t have to worry about modifying this
  • Line #2 defines the orientation of the printout as either horizontal or vertical.
  • Line #3 defines which printer InBloom should auto-switch to.  There are three options for this line: tag, document, or receipt.
  • Line #4 defines whether InBloom should print all of the records or only the currently selected record.  The two options for this line are: All records or current record.
  • Line #5 defines any special paper types and sizes.  If no options are specified, it will default to a 8-1/2″ x 11″ sheet of paper. Otherwise, you can specify the following options: 30323 (referring to Dymo Label 30323), 30336 (referring to Dymo Label 30336), Zebra (referring to colored thermal price tags), or Receipt (which refers to standard 3″ thermal receipt paper)
