How to network InBloom

In order to network between multiple computers, you need a multiuser license for InBloom and a multiuser license of Filemaker Pro.  Once you have both, you will need to do the following:

  1. Run InBloom on a network between multiple computers.  It is highly recommended to use wired networking and not wireless networking as wireless network strength can depend on several factors including distance between computers, metal obstacles, etc.  With wired networking, there should be no issue.
  2. Once your network is up and running, decide upon using a computer as your center for data (aka your server).  All other machines will connect to this server over the network and share the data in realtime.  We recommend choosing the fastest and most powerful computer you have in your setup to do this.  Laptops are generally not in this category, but they can suffice.
  3. Install Filemaker Pro on every computer you plan to network
  4. Install InBloom on your server
  5. Once InBloom is installed and running on your server, open up and log in to InBloom on the server.
  6. From the Main Menu, go to File menu > Sharing > Filemaker Network.  In the new window that opens, set Network Sharing to On.  Click Ok when done.
  7. Now, quit Filemaker.
  8. Now reopen InBloom and Filemaker.  (If there is a problem, Filemaker will show a dialog stating there is a communication error over a specific port or that the database could not be shared.  Otherwise, if it does not, you’re just about done)
  9. Now go to any of the other non-server/client computers and open Filemaker.
  10. Go to the File menu in Filemaker and choose Open Remote.
  11. A new window should open and you should be able to see the server under Local hosts.  Choose that, then highlight InBloom on the right, then click Open.
  12. InBloom should connect and you should be all set.
